SSPH Research Prize 2012


The Swiss Society for Pulmonary Hypertension SSPH is interested in new aspects in the diagnosis, the management and the epidemiology of pulmonary hypertension, therefore the society promotes a research prize for scientific research in these fields for 2012.

The research prize is rated CHF 5'000.-.


Announcement and criteria for the award

A jury rates the incoming study projects. The criteria will be officially published on the website of the SSPH and sent to all members of the society and all PH centres in Switzerland. The grant will also be promoted in related disciplines with a special interest in pulmonary hypertension (pneumology, cardiology, intensive care, etc.).

Application criteria
The submitted project must describe a research proposal. Alternatively, a recently (< 12 months) published or in press paper can be accepted. Applicants must hold a recognized MD or PhD degree, be currently employed by a medical institution within Switzerland and have a broad experience and interest in the field of the pulmonary hypertension. Their qualification will be judged depending on experience, publications and their involvement in their institution.

  • The applicant should be the principal investigator and/or the first author of the publication.
  • The applicant should be younger than the age of 45 years
  • The applicant should not have a professoral title
  • At least one member of the research group must be member of the SSPH


The application shall include a three pages research proposal or the manuscript in pdf or doc-file and the CV of the applicant.

 

Assessment criteria of the research project
The following criteria will be considered for the awarding:

  • Relevance of the study for the research in pulmonary hypertension
  • Content of the study plan
    - Study design
    - Quality of hypothesis
    - Scientific background
  • Originality



Evaluation
Every jury member rates every study by raking following the criteria mentioned above:
First place: 3 points
Second place: 2 points
Third place: 1 point

The winner is the applicant of the highest rated research project. Members of the jury cannot vote for the applicant from their own institution at the hospital level. The SSPH president is the final judge in case of equality. A written protocol of the decision will be established by the president of the scientific committee. No contestation by the applicant will be considered.


Jury
The jury consists of members of the society and their president, who presides the jury at the same time. The jury can consult external experts if necessary.

The members of the jury are:

  • one SSPH member for each of the 5 University Hospitals (including the SSPH president)
  • The president of the scientific committee

Submission of the project:    April, 30, 2012
Announcement of the winner:    September 28, 2012 (5th international congress of the SSPH)
